Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen, and Golden Waterfall Day Tour
If you want to hit up Taiwan’s north coast on your trip, this is the day tour I took—the “Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen, and Golden Waterfall” one through Klook. It was a great way to see everything without stressing over logistics, starting right from Taipei Main Station at in the morning ( with an afternoon option as well). Here’s how my day went down.
➡️ Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen, and Golden Waterfall

We kicked off at Yehliu Geopark, this incredible spot on the coast with all these bizarre rock formations carved by the sea over thousands of years. The Queen’s Head was the star—it’s this mushroom-shaped rock that’s super photogenic. I spent time walking the paths, taking in the ocean views and the fresh breeze.
Next up was the Golden Waterfall, because of the rusty orange color from iron in the rocks. It was a nice, quiet stop after the park— the water cascades down gently, and the surrounding greenery made it feel peaceful. I just stood there for a bit, soaking in the glow from the sunlight on the falls.
From there, we headed to Jiufen, that charming old mining village up in the hills (it inspired parts of Spirited Away). The narrow streets are lined with lanterns, teahouses, and little shops— I grabbed a cup of oolong at one overlooking the misty hills. It was the perfect spot to pause and take in the views.
Heads up, steep steps (over 200), so make sure you are in decent shape and able to do that. But street stalls are all around on the way up so you can take breaks.
Then we went to Shifen Waterfall, right nearby. It’s a powerful, misty drop with a viewing platform close enough to feel the spray. We didn’t stay long, but it was refreshing to see that natural power up close after the quieter waterfall earlier.
We wrapped up in Shifen town itself, where everyone gets to release sky lanterns with wishes written on them. You can scribble one, lightt it up, and watch it float over the area—super memorable, especially hearing the guide talk about the town’s mining history.
The driver and guide kept things smooth and informative, and the roads weren’t as twisty as I expected. Booking on Klook was easy, and for the price, you get a ton packed in. If you like a steady pace with time for photos and quick breaks, it’s spot on—just not super leisurely since you have a lot to go see in one day.
